EV CHARGER INSTALL CASE STUDY: Sikorsky Road, Langford

At a glance: Sikorsky Road, Langford. Garage-mounted Level 2 for a 2026 Chevrolet Blazer EV. Wallbox Pulsar Plus (PUP1, 40A), hardwired. 50A double-pole Siemens breaker, TECK cable. Full panel freed up with tandem breakers, no service upgrade needed. $350 rebate. Completed in under a day.

The customer, on Sikorsky Road in Langford, had just bought a new 2026 Chevrolet Blazer EV and was charging off a slow Level 1 cord that took most of a day to top up. They wanted a proper Level 2 setup so they could plug in overnight and wake up to a full battery.

The panel was in the garage, only about two feet from where the charger would sit, so the run itself was short and clean. The real question was capacity. When we opened the panel it was nearly full, with very little open space for a new circuit. Rather than jump straight to a costly service upgrade, we ran a load calculation and confirmed the service could comfortably carry a 40A charger. To make physical room, we consolidated existing circuits onto tandem breakers, which freed up the slots we needed for a new double-pole breaker. The home was newer and the panel was in great shape, so no other remediation was required.

We installed a Wallbox Pulsar Plus (PUP1, 40A), hardwired to a 50A double-pole Siemens breaker and fed with surface-mounted TECK cable run straight into the unit. We mounted the charger at chest height so the connector is easy to reach and rack. The whole job was completed in under a day.

With the permit closed out, the customer qualified for $350 in rebates and, most importantly, went from an all-day trickle charge to a fast overnight fill. They were thrilled to have their new Blazer EV ready to go every morning.

Langford: a Wallbox Pulsar Plus (40A) hardwired straight into the garage panel about two feet away. The existing service had room once we freed up slots with tandem breakers, so no service upgrade was needed.

WHAT GOES INTO YOUR victoria EV CHARGER INSTALLATION

No two homes charge the same way, so the first thing we do is figure out what your electrical system can actually support. That starts with your panel. We check your existing service size and run a load calculation to see how much spare capacity you have once the charger is added. Most Level 2 chargers want a dedicated 40 or 50 amp circuit, and a 200 amp service comfortably handles that in most homes.

If your panel is close to full, you have options before jumping to a full service upgrade. An EVEMS (Electric Vehicle Management System) monitors your home's power use and throttles the charger when demand is high, which often lets you add charging without upsizing the service. It is the less expensive route for a lot of Victoria homes.

From there we confirm the setup that fits you. A hardwired Level 2 charger gives the cleanest, most reliable result and is our usual recommendation (also applicable for the most rebates), while a plug-in charger on a dedicated receptacle keeps things flexible if you may move the unit later. We plan the cable run at the same time, keeping it as short and tidy as possible from the panel to your parking spot, indoors or outdoors, and price any distance beyond two metres up front so there are no surprises.

Once the install is done we file and close your Technical Safety BC permit and hand you the documentation you need for your rebate. Not sure where your home stands? Book a free on-site consultation and we will assess your panel, confirm your options, and give you a firm price before any work begins.
